Of course the celebrities generally have oodles of cash to splash around on expensive interior designers and design help for their fabulous homes, but there’s no reason why we can’t pinch a little bit of design inspiration from them!
Mellow Martha’s Vineyard
As with all Martha’s Vineyard and East Coast holiday hot spots, Meg Ryan’s gorgeous holiday home is all about rustic simplicity. Airy and bright, the typically white-painted exposed woodwork and lots of breezy light fabrics in natural natural tones, gives this modestly sized home an extra special spacious and summery feel. No downlights here! Light with simple brass pendants, wall sconces and table lamps. Accessorize with driftwood objets, rugs, throws and open fires for snuggling down in the winter months.
He may no longer be a bachelor, but George Clooney’s Mexican getaway (next door to his friends Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber) is of course oozing masculinity with sophisticated style and seemingly effortless comfort. This hacienda-style apartment features wooden ceilings with wooden fans and brise soleils to give an airy holiday feel, but the chunky, comfortable furniture with rich, masculine tones, interesting leather woven stools and low tables to park your drink and cigar on are perfect for relaxing with your mates.
Courtenay Cox’s Malibu home is the epitome of easy beachside living with a beautiful light and spacious open plan kitchen and living area that moves seamlessly onto a gorgeous deck (with ocean views of course!). The minimal, glossy white kitchen bounces the light beautifully, while the stone floors keep it cool under foot. The integrated sitting space is sectioned off and relaxed with a neutral rug and comfy sofas. The natural, stone coloured space is brought to life with plants, rustic accessories and a gorgeous, colourful Massimo Vitali photo on the wall.
The Goop founder, Gwynetth Paltrow loves a super organised home and this little insight into her Hamptons holiday home is planned to perfection! The team from the Home Edit were called in to make her kids’ playroom and pantry easy to use and keep tidy – everything is divided into colours and activities. A veritable storage haven, but with everything visible, there’s a place for everything and everything in its place! We love the clean, minimal white backdrop with oodles of shelves and boxes to tidy away all your bits and bobs. Walls of built-in storage units and shelves are perfect for smaller spaces.
Sex & The City writer, Candace Bushnell’s Manhattan apartment is everything you’d expect from the real life Carrie! Her beautifully chic and girly living room is filled with interesting collectibles and mixes classic and contemporary, with clean white walls as a backdrop for modern colourful artwork. Her furniture is elegant with vintage Louis XVI sofa, paired with art deco mirrored glass and metal tables and a beautiful vintage mirrored screen (of course – we must be able to see our outfits!) to reflect the light and give the feeling of more space to this relatively compact city apartment.
